ROMA (ITALPRESS) – There are 535 million and 500 thousand tourist attendance of 2025, for a total expenditure of 185 billion. These are the record numbers presented by the Minister of Tourism Gianmarco Mazzi in Confesercenti Forum 2026, the event organized by Confesercenti in Piazza del Popolo in Rome.
“And 2026 consolidates this positive trend. Expenditure of foreign travellers in the first eight months rose to 16 billion and 200 thousand euros, +5% on the same period of 2025. A growth rate over six times higher than that recorded a year ago. The role of commerce and proximity enterprises is fundamental. Every activity that lights up a square, every business that invests in the territory, every service offered to citizens and visitors contributes to making a more attractive and welcoming destination. Because there is no quality tourism without community living, dynamic and able to create relationships. The success of Italy is reaching it thanks to our cities, villages, local productions, artistic and cultural heritage, and our traditions or the country system, able to make that extraordinary variety of tourist experiences possible”, the words of the Minister of Tourism.
“Tourism has long been one of the most powerful engines of the Italian economy, an industry made up of companies that generate wealth and employment on the territories. But it is also a sector that needs to be accompanied in the challenges of the future”, said the president of Assoturismo Confesercenti Vittorio Messina.
“From the increase in energy costs to global changes that are already redesigning the geography of tourist flows and the seasonality of presences, our enterprises face profound changes. We need appropriate policies and tools to support their competitiveness.” “The tourist who arrives in Italy is looking for something more than the beauty of our places, culture and gastronomy. We must be able to interpret this transformation, and the regeneration of the territories is the answer,” said Confesercenti president Nico Gronchi. “Last year tourists spent around 56.7 billion euros in Italy, excluding travel: 24% in catering and 15% in shops. We must preserve the identity and uniqueness of our offer, because this is what makes Italy different from other destinations.”.
