Mattarella “Rendering effective the right to mental health is not eludible”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The theme chosen at international level for 2026 – “Experiences experienced listened: true voices, true change” – recalls the value of participation and reminds us that people are not only recipients of policies and services, but they represent the center of these and, therefore, must be protagonists in the decisions that concern them.” The president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, said this on the occasion of the World Day of Mental Health.

“Listening to those who live, lived directly, the experience of psychic suffering is an integral part of the policies and paths of care in respect of the dignity of every citizen – he continues. Psychological discomfort passes through all ages of life and is increasingly manifested, especially among children and adolescents. Anxiety, depression and loneliness tell a malaise that the recent pandemic has made more evident, but that it sinks its roots also in the precariousness and fragility of relationships”.

“The construction in Italy of a model of mental health founded on the community marked a turning point of civilization that placed the dignity, rights and freedom of the person at the centre – emphasizes the head of the state –. Making the right to mental health effective, ensuring every individual the possibility to find listening, care and support, wherever alive and whatever its condition is, is a question not eludible. Mental health is not only reduced to the health dimension. It concerns the quality of the contexts in which we live, study, work and create and requires attention able to intercept the discomfort before you cling, connecting families, school, health and social services and communities. Investing in mental health means therefore preventing, healing and accompanying, while supporting families and those who live conditions of fragility every day. It means recognizing, first of all, the value and dignity of each person”, concludes Mattarella.
