ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Cash is the most widespread payment method in the euro area: the latest survey on the use of cash by companies in the euro area, published today by the European Central Bank.
In 2026, 92% of companies selling goods and services in physical stores in retail, restaurants and bars, hotels and art, entertainment and leisure said to accept cash, an increase compared to 90% of 2024.
Acceptance of card payments remained stable at 88% between 2024 and 2026, while acceptance of payments via mobile devices increased significantly, from 36% to 68% of companies in the same period.
25% of companies in the Eurozone declare that they have taken measures to promote digital payments, such as cash-free cash-free cash-free cash-free cash-reduction or cash-receiving. In the euro area, 13% of the activities introduced self-service terminals.
