ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Brindisi demonstrates that the green conversion plan agreed” by Eni-Versalis “with much of the unions to our Dicastery entered the operational phase. Now the attention is above all on Sicily, where we have guaranteed a concrete industrial perspective for Priolo and Ragusa, avoiding resignation and safeguarding work and skills. And I thank the Region for believing us. In Priolo, Versalis awaits by the end of August the opinion of environmental impact assessment for the new biorefinery and for the chemical recycling plant of plastics: if the iter proceeds regularly, after the summer the yard will be formally started. Immediately afterwards, the route on Ragusa should also be completed, where there have been no authorisation criticism”. So the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, in an interview with Quotidiano Sicilia.
“It is the line we have indicated from the beginning: do not close, but revert and relaunch, defending the industrial vocation of Sicily.” Also the entry of Q8 into the new biorefinery “gives to the project solid financial bases and a long-term industrial perspective. It is a strategic choice for Priolo and the whole of Sicily: it strengthens employment and competitiveness and transforms a historical industrial site into a resource for the country’s energy and production future. I met a few days ago the fund of Kuwait which, in the light of this positive experience, intends to make other investments in Italy”.
On the Pfizer affair in Catania, continues Urso, “We immediately activated ourselves, well aware of the importance of this productive, scientific and technological asset. The table is convened for the next 22 July and we intend to arrive with a consolidated work programme. This is why we are carrying out the necessary insights with the company and the trade union organizations, with the aim of achieving a sustainable and shared solution, as we have done in other cases, in order to guarantee the occupational and productive continuity of the site of Catania and to protect all workers. Nobody’s gonna have to stay back. Just yesterday I met Mayor Enrico Trantino at Mimit. With us are in the field the Municipality and the Region”.
Meanwhile the works for the StMicroelectronics factory “procede at full pace and the goal is to start production by this year, to gradually reach full capacity by 2033. Catania will become the European heart of silicon carbide, with the first site in the world capable of integrating the entire production cycle and with significant relapses on employment, skills and induced”, he emphasizes. “From Sicily also takes shape the industrial policy that Italy has brought to Brussels: more investments, faster authorizations and support to the entire supply chain, to reduce dependencies and bring back strategic productions to Europe,” Urso concludes.
