ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Summer 2026 changes the eating habits of Italians, but without causing a generalized price race. This is what emerges from a CNA elaboration on the trend of consumption and products more related to the summer season.
With the increase of the temperatures the purchases of melons and watermelons grow, followed by ice creams, ice creams, salads, mozzarella, fresh vegetables and canned tuna. In the hottest weeks, they explain the distribution surveys, the sales of melons and watermelons can increase up to 25%, while for ice creams, salads and fresh products the increments range between 10 and 15%.
Despite the strong demand, prices remain content. In July general inflation was 2.9% annually, while food products increased to 1.1%. Even more contained the growth of the so-called “shop cart”, stops at 1%.
The dynamics vary according to the compartments: the fruit costs on average 0.7% less than a year ago, while the vegetables mark an increase of 2.6%.
