ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Last May, according to the data of the Bank of Italy, the balance of tourist payments in Italy was a surplus of 2.7 billion, a slight increase compared to the same month of 2025.
Both foreign travel expenses in Italy (5.4 billion) and Italian travellers abroad (2.7 billion) grew in comparison with May 2025, respectively 4.3 and 2.2%. On the average of the three months ending in May 2026 the incoming flows increased compared to the same period of the previous year, equal to 2.3%, in the face of a substantial stability of the outputs. Expenditure growth in Italy was significantly higher for travellers from EU countries than in non-EU countries (4.1 and 0.4% respectively).
Expenditure of Italians abroad has grown in EU countries (3%), while it has decreased in extra- EU (-2.7%).
