ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “I address to all the citizens of the Jewish communities of Italy and to guests or residents of Jewish faith present in our country the best wishes on the occasion of the holidays of Rosh haShanà. The beginning of the new year in the Jewish calendar urges feelings of hope and rebirth, interpellating everyone and everyone to cultivate the reasons for reconciliation, dialogue and mutual respect”. Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a statement on the occasion of the Jewish New Year. “These benevolent aspirations are largely shared by humanity, without distinctions of religious belief, philosophical conception or political conviction. The happy occasion of Rosh haShanà urges us to give concrete realization in the works of everyday life. We must accept this exhortation in an even more cogent sense in the present historical moment, exposed to uncertainties, conflicts, at the risk that new walls are permanently interposed among people.”.
“It is the duty of all, indistinctly, to avoid such nefarious drifts, preventing the values of justice, solidarity and peace from being developed, reduced to abstract idealisms, subordinated to logic of pure prevarication,” recalls the president. “They are, on the contrary, the cornerstones of the Italian Republic and the life of our national community, antidotes to every form of intolerance and discrimination. May these days of celebration lead everyone to reflect on what they are supposed to be irrelevant for a civil and fruitful coexistence, for the construction of more cohesive societies in respect of pluralism, for the preservation of a peaceful, prosperous, fair and governed by law,” concludes Mattarella.
