ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The night of August 24, ten years ago, the violent earthquake that had epicentre between Accumoli and Arquata del Tronto, in the heart of the Central Apennines, struck many municipalities between Lazio, Marche, Umbria and Abruzzo, to which they followed further seismic sequences until the beginning of 2017. With its budget of 299 deaths, 365 wounded and more than 40,000 displaced, that earthquake – whose Amatrice devastation has become a symbol – is a dramatic page in the history of the Republic and acts as a constant warning on the continuous need to strengthen the mechanisms of prevention and intervention to be implemented to the occurrence of seismic phenomena to which our territory is subject”. So the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
“The volunteers from all over Italy, their precious and generous work, together with the readiness of the interventions of the First Aid Authorities have been a vehicle of aid and assistance, bringing also a signal of hope and sharing with which a process of reconstruction began. As on the occasion of the other natural disasters that have occurred in our territory, the spirit of solidarity that unites the Italian people has proved to be an effective instrument of resilience and containment before the calamity of so wide scope and violence,” he adds.
“Restoration is a path, not devoid of complexity, which requires the commitment to be completed as soon as possible and is a reminder to the collective responsibility to restore that normality that has been broken in the territories affected by this tragedy. On this day of memory, I join in the pain of those who have suffered the loss of family members and express my closeness to the wounded and to those who have suddenly found themselves in conditions of great difficulty”, the head of the state concludes.
