In June accelerates the growth of loans to enterprises and families, +3.3%

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In June 2026, the total of loans to enterprises and families grew by 3.3% on a yearly basis, accelerating compared to the change recorded the previous month (+3%), continuing the growth path of loans started in March 2025. For families it is the eighteenth consecutive month of increase and for enterprises it is the twelfth consecutive month of growth of loans.

In fact, loans to households increased by 2.6% in May 2026, while loans to enterprises by 3.5%. The indirect collection, i.e. investments in securities kept by banks, has increased 105.8 billion between May 2025 and May 2026 (+46.2 billion households, +15.8 billion enterprises and the remaining increase to other sectors, financial enterprises, insurance, public administrations). The total direct collection (deposit by resident customers and bonds) in June 2026 was up by 3.6% on an annual basis, continuing the positive dynamic recorded from early 2024 (+2.9% in the previous month).

In June 2026 the deposits, in the various forms, grew by 3.2% annually (+2.7% the previous month). The medium and long-term collection, through bonds, in June 2026 increased by 6.2% compared to one year before (+4.1% in the previous month).

In June 2026 the average rate on the total of loans (then subscribed over the years) was 4,08% (+0.03% compared to the previous month); the average rate on new housing purchases fell to 3,48% (-0.02% compared to the previous month; it was 4,42% in December 2023); the average rate on new business financing operations was 3,76% (+0.09% compared to the previous month).

The average rate on new fixed-term deposits (i.e. deposit certificates and deposits) in June 2026 rose to 2.31%, (+0.13% compared to the previous month; 2.18%) and above the average euro area, which stood at 2.01% in May. Compared to June 2022, when the rate was 0.29%, the increase was 202 basic points. The return of new fixed-rate bank bond issues at June 2026 was 2.72%.

In June 2026, the average rate on total deposits (certificates of deposits, savings deposits and current accounts), increased to 0.67% (from 0.65% of May 2026 and 0.32% of June 2022). The rate on current accounts, which do not have the investment function and allow to use a multitude of services, in June 2026 rose to 0.31% (up to 0.29% of May 2026 and 0.02% of June 2022).

The margin (spread) on new operations (difference between rates on new loans and the new collection) with non-financial families and companies in June 2026 was 208 basic points. In May 2026 net deteriorated credits (i.e. all sufferings, probable defaults and expired and/or unfinancing exposures calculated net of devaluations and provisions already made by banks) amounted to €26.7 billion, from December 27.7 billion 2025 (31.3 billion to December 2024). Compared to their maximum level, 196.3 billion reached in 2015, there were over 169 billion.

In May 2026 net deteriorated credits accounted for 1,28% of total credits. This ratio was lower than December 2025 (1.32%; 1,51% to December 2024; 9.8% to December 2015).
