ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “Program three years, in situations of great turbulence, of great changes, of political tensions, is very complicated, the updates are weekly, and the fundamental decision, when the weather report announces storm, before leaving in open sea, is to ensure the conditions of the boat”. This was said by the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti, intervening in the Chamber room, on the programmatic document of economics and public finance. “It is what we have done and that we are trying to do, coming from 4 years of consolidation also in international markets – added Giorgetti – and therefore this route, we think we have to confirm, at a time like this, in which they announce clouds on the horizon”. Minister Giorgetti confirmed that the document “responds to this approach, aims to respect the path of consolidation and sustainability of public finance and that aims to respect the targets from European governance, then if some circumstances allow it will be possible to achieve the exit from the excessive deficit procedure next spring”.
“The burden on debt, and I must remember that the debt we have inherited, which has been built by generations of governments, is a debt that does not allow us, basically, to vary too much on the subject and therefore unfortunately that line of item of expenditure, which is not amendable by anyone, which is a fact, in relation to this situation, is destined to rise. This is why, unfortunately, the restrictive policy in monetary terms does not help public finance, and does not help the real economy – added Giorgetti – but at this time, it is an act of quotes due, according to the classic monetary policy approach of central banks”.
“On the budgetary deviation I remember that the activation of the clause is a conscious step of deviation from the line of sustainability and prudence: the 0.3% n more deficit for energy and defense, are something that the European commission recognizes, and that the markets have recognized compatible with a path of sustainability of the Italian public debt finance. That is why the government is sufficiently motivated to ask this Parliament. Of course, this 0.3% defence, comes from international obligations – said Giorgetti – and commitments that the country has taken over time. Energy is the result of a work that the government has done at the committee level, which has granted this space, which will be aimed at investments to guarantee energy security and also to give support, in a selective and temporary way, to families and enterprises in difficulty. The iter is in progress, it has not ended, but we believe that the request is due”.
“At this moment, the hope is that the approach to enabling Italy to present itself in a credible way to institutions and markets, and we hope that the approach will be shared to ask for a budgetary deviation for energy and defence. This is not a question of indiscriminate deviations in number and quantity but it is a consciously demanded budget deviation, and that guarantees the sustainability of our public finance and our debt without jeopardizing the one built in these 4 years.”.
