Istat, in July export in increase of 4.7% on an annual basis

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In July 2026 exports recorded a conjunctural growth of 0.3%, while imports decrease by 1.2%. Istat detects it. The monthly increase in exports is the result of an increase in sales towards extra EU markets (+6.9%) and a decline in those towards the EU area (-5.6%). In the quarter of May-July, compared to the previous three months, exports increased by 1.3% and imports by 2.8%. On an annual basis, export grew by 4.7% in value in July, with a decrease of 1.7% in volume. Growth in value is more sustained towards the countries outside the EU (+6.6%) than the EU (+2.7%). The import increases by 4.6% in value, with increments both from the EU area (+4.9%) and from the extra EU (+4.2%), while in volume it recorded a decrease of 2.7%. Among the sectors that contribute more to the growth of exports are basic metals and metal products, excluding machines and plants (+13.8%), coke and refined petroleum products (+27.3%) and sports articles, games, musical instruments, precious, medical instruments and other products (+15.9%). Exports of transport, excluding motor vehicles (- 2.5%). Among the markets, Switzerland has increased positive contribution to export growth (+39.6%), followed by Opec countries (+26.3%) and China (+27.6%), while negatively weighing sales contraction to Asean countries (-26.9%).

In the first seven months of the year export grew by 4.6% on an annual basis, mainly supported by base metals and metal products (+26.4%), coke and refined petroleum products (+24%) and motor vehicles (+8%). The trade balance in July is positive for €8.24 billion, against €7.829 billion in the same month of 2025. The energy deficit rises to 5,515 billion, from 4,117 billion a year earlier, while the advance in the exchange of non-energy products increases from 11,947 to 13,756 billion. In July import prices rose by 0.4% on a monthly basis and by 5% on an annual basis.
