ROMA (ITALPRESS) – According to Istat, the most recent national accounting data have confirmed the preliminary estimates: in the second quarter, the gross domestic product, corrected for the calendar and seasonal effects, has increased by 0.2% compared to the previous three months, continuing the growth phase started in the third quarter of 2025.
The change acquired for 2026, net of the calendar effects, is 0.8%. In detail, national final consumption increased by 0.3% compared to the previous quarter, providing a two-tenth point contribution to GDP growth. This result has contributed, on the one hand, the slight decrease in the expenditure of public administrations (-0.1% economic), on the other the decided increase of the expenditure of the resident families and the ISP (+0.4%), which is added to the strong increase already recorded in the previous quarter (+0.5%).
As regards household spending on the economic territory, the most dynamic component was that of durable goods, grown by 0.9%, while expenditure on non-durables remained stable. The consumption of services and that of semi-hard goods showed both an increase of 0.4%.
Investments also provided a positive contribution (for a tenth point) to the economic change of GDP (+0.3% change on a conjunctural basis), although they show a dynamic expansion in significant slowdown compared to the observed rates from the end of 2024. The growth affected exclusively expenditure in non-residential buildings and other works (+7.4%), and that in intellectual property products (+1.0%).
On the contrary, the trend of investments in housing and those in plants, machinery and armaments, decreased by 7.0% and 2.3% respectively. For investment in housing, the contraction follows the sharp decline already recorded in the previous quarter (- 5.7%).
