ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Confimprese-Jakala Confimprese-Jakala Confimprese-Jakala Confimprese-Consumption Observatory continues. The month of June, we read in a note, “closes with a bending of -2,6% to value compared to June 2025, confirming a progressive weakening of demand”. To weigh are “the permanence of a climate of uncertainty and greater caution of families in the choices of expenditure, especially for discretionary purchases.”.
“The slowdown in consumption – says Mario Resca, President Confimprese – is no longer an isolated episode but a trend that is consolidating. Families spend more carefully and this is clearly reflected in trade. The fact that the first semester closes in tie is a positive figure, but cannot hide the deterioration recorded in recent months. If the confidence of families will continue to weaken, the risk is that the second part of the year is more complex for trade. It is necessary to create a context that favours the recovery of consumption. Enterprises are doing their part, but alone they cannot reverse this trend, because without internal demand also the investments of enterprises are likely to slow down.” As for the cumulative figure of the first half (January-June 2026 vs January-June 2025), the total market remains in balance, at 0.0%.
On the front of the merceologic compartments, clothing-accessories record the most marked braking to -4,7% and also pays the traditional waiting effect of the sales, which this year has added to a greater caution of the families. “When consumers return purchases, it means uncertainty prevails and expenditure propensity remains weak,” the Observatory notes. In negative territory to -4.2% also catering, which suffers a greater selectivity in consumption. “The Italians continue to give themselves moments out of the house, but pay more attention to spending, reducing the average receipt or choosing cheaper formulas.”.
Other retail (person’s care, optics, electronics, telephony, home furniture, animal products, services, entertainment) is in recovery and closes the month to +2.0%. The figure shows that “the demand has not disappeared, but has moved towards purchases considered priority. It is the signal of an increasingly selective consumer, who carefully evaluates how to allocate their budget.” In addition, some other retail sectors are less sensitive to the referral of the purchase (e.g. health, care of the person, optics, home products), and this supports the overall figure.
Also in the sales channels, according to Confimprese, there are remarkable bendings. Starting from shopping centers to -2,9% and from proximity to -4,4%. High street are the only ones growing at +2.1%: often in shopping streets there are premium signs and services, which attract a consumer more willing to spend on targeted purchases. In the regions Sicily and Marche unique in positive to +0.9%. In the province cities Pesaro-Urbino +1.2%. Bolzano deep red to -9.2% and Crotone to -9.7%.
