ROMA (ITALPRESS) – If there is a government that has done everything to calm the price of fuels and prevent costs from falling on the purchasing power of families “that is the Meloni government”. Thus Tommaso Foti, FdI, Minister for European Affairs, the Pnrr and the Cohesion Policies, in an interview with the Corriere della Sera.
“What you can do again we will do, I think in the next few days. But everything must be done with great caution, because we are in a complicated contingency so no one can tell what will happen in three days in the Strait of Hormuz,” he emphasizes. “We have financed for 5 billion bills, a fundamental intervention for families and businesses. In particular, it is sufficient to read among others the opinion of Unimpresa, of those who work in the productive sector: from the beginning of 2026 the government has made interventions for two billion, with absolutely positive effects. We lowered prices at times when the peak of the increases was reached, obviously for limited periods.” On the next measures “we are thinking, some interventions will be there. A company hypothesizes 100 million as from press news, but I think it is appropriate first to take measures and then to assess their impact.”.
Mobile excisements, which “born in 2008 with the Prodi government, have never been used, even by the Draghi government. In 2023, the Meloni government intervened to make them usable. And it is in place a verification in order to be able to use them, considering that in order to establish revenues of the VAT deriving from the increase of the cost of fuels it is necessary a temporal ar-co of two months. The price increases and downfalls follow quickly and do not allow to act immediately. But we are working, and we are the first to do so.” Also “predicting special measures on fuel through social cards is an idea on which you are working”, Foti concludes.
