Meloni “The Italian economy keeps well, possible exit from infringement procedure”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The stability that this government has assured, has allowed Italy to face with greater security what is the most difficult situation in recent decades.” So premier Giorgia Meloni in an interview with Milano Finanza. “The Italian economy is keeping well. And the data of the first two quarters 2026 are encouraging, with an increase of 1% compared to April-June 2025 and a progression acquired for 2026 of 0.8%. Another comforting factor – he adds – is the increase in pro-capite GDP, which reflects the real wealth of citizens.”
Meloni then points out that “Italy is the only nation in the G7 to have returned in 2024 in primary surplus, after the pandemic, with a post-Covid growth among the most robust and employment at the highest historians. Comparisons achieved with a clear basic choice: to apply to public accounts that common sense that each family father must use to make his own budget square, concentrating resources on what it serves and cutting waste.
This allowed us to return the bar straight, despite the inherited catasrophic situation.” So, according to the President of the Council, “out of the infringement procedure is an objective at our disposal”. With budgetary flexibility, “we will try to make the most of the additional resources now available on the energy front – let’s talk about 14 billion more in the next two years – to mitigate the impact of increasing prices on vulnerable families and businesses, but more generally of all Italians.” As for nuclear “we are determined to move forward, with great speed and concreteness. Because we think that the return of nuclear energy, in particular the next generation nuclear power can be the real solution for our energy security and to have, in the medium and long term, costs much lower than the current ones.”
