MADRID (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – On the issue of migration, and in particular on the situation that has arisen in Ceuta in recent days, “there have been States, governments, who have not been up to expectations” to address the situation as a European issue. The Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said this in an interview with Tve. “The Italian government was one of these. Here in Spain I feel irresponsible statements by the People’s Party and Vox”, the minister continued. Albares stated that before the crisis in Ceuta it was “an unusual activity” on social media that “widened and distorted” the ruling of the Spanish Supreme Court, which, at the beginning of July, established that people arrived at swimming could not be repatriated “force” in their countries of origin. According to the minister, there was also a “synchronization of the reactionary international that immediately mobilized to amplify the event”. “And also to spread false lies and news about the Schengen area, its integrity and the actions of Spain,” he added. “This is a time when I demand and invoke the unity of all political forces around two Spanish cities, Ceuta and Melilla, and the unity of all Europeans around these two European cities,” he said, convinced of the “specific nation” of the border in both autonomous cities. “It is the only external border of the European Union that winds down with Africa. We cannot face this border as we face any other border city in Europe,” he observed.
The Minister therefore asked Brussels to take responsibility for this situation, which will be addressed at the meeting of the Ministers of the Interior to be held tomorrow, at the request of the Spanish Government. “Africa and Europe are two very different continents, and this situation must be managed jointly with Morocco and with European solidarity, which is what we will try to convey in that meeting,” he said. As regards Italy, Albares said that the country has the largest number of irregular entrances in Europe, while Spain has the lowest number.
FONTI VIMINALE “CON GOVERNO MELONI CROLLO DEGLI SBARCHI DEI MIGRANTI”
In Italy from January of this year there has been a collapse of the bars of irregular migrants “that was obtained thanks to the policies of the Meloni government. This is a drop of 55% compared to last year and about 82% compared to 2023 the first year of settlement of our Executive who had to face a situation inherited from previous governments that was completely out of control. As for the alleged ‘invasion’ of Lampedusa, at the moment there are 98 migrants on the island and for a long time there is no emergency situation on the spot”. It is learned from sources of Viminale.
