ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Italian cosmetic industry is confirmed as one of the most dynamic sectors of Made in Italy, with an expected turnover of 18.1 billion euros in 2026, up 1% compared to 2025, and consumption at 13,1 billion (+2.3%). This is what emerges from the estimates of Cosmetica Italia presented during the inaugural event of Milan Beauty Week 2026, organized by Cosmetica Italia in collaboration with Cosmoprof and Esxence.
In the last ten years the sector has recorded growth rates over six times greater than those of national GDP, confirming the ability to create value, qualified employment and competitiveness even in a complex geopolitical context.
To support consumption are mainly e-commerce, growing 9%, pharmacy (+3.5%) and perfumery (+2%). The export continues to represent one of the main engines of the sector, with 8.6 billion euros estimated in 2026 (+0.5%), although the geography of exports is evolving: the contraction to some strategic markets, including the United States and the Arab Emirates, is offset by the growth of Europe, the Asian area, driven by China, Hong Kong and South Korea, and India.
Lombardy confirms the main pole of the Italian cosmetic industry, concentrating 35.1% of the national enterprises, 51.1% of the employees and 63% of the total turnover. In the territory of Milan, Monza and Brianza, Lodi and Pavia there are also 434 companies, 39 thousand employees and 8.7 billion euros of turnover, according to the data of Assolombarda.
“The Italian cosmetic industry confirms itself as a strategic sector for the growth of the country”, commented the president of Cosmetica Italia Benedetto Lavino, underlining the need to strengthen the position of the Italian cosmetic system on international markets, leveraging the strength of the supply chain and innovation, technology, creativity and craftsmanship. In this direction the project “This is Beauty: Say Hello To Italian Beauty”, aimed at promoting the characteristics of the Italian cosmetic industry. For the president of Assolombarda Alvise Biffi, “ cosmetics is much more than a sector linked to beauty: it is an industry that creates value, innovation and work and that represents one of the strongest expressions of Made in Italy in the world”. Biffi has also highlighted the role of Lombardy as an ecosystem of enterprises, skills, research, universities and productive capacity, with a strong international vocation.
