Istat, in September inflation confirmed up to 4.2%

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In September Istat confirms, according to the definitive data, that the national index of consumer prices for the entire community (NIC), to the gross of tobacco, records a change of conjunctural pairs to +0.7% and a curtain to +4.2% (from +3.3% of August), confirming the preliminary estimate. The acceleration is mainly due to the performance of energy prices, both regulated (from +18.6% to +25.8%) and non-regulated (from +17.0% to +21.5%), and unworked food (from +3.8% to +5.5%); the prices of recreational, cultural and personal care services (from +2.6% to +2.9%) and transport services (from +0.8%). The increase in the rate of growth of the prices of the goods (from +4.1% to +5.4%) is more marked than that of the services (from +2.4% to +2.6%). The differential between the service sector and that of the goods is expanded, from -1,7 to -2,8 percentage points. Increases the growth of both the prices of food, for the care of the house and the person (from +0.9% to +1.5%) and of those of the products with high frequency of purchase (from +4.3% to +5.2%). The change in the general index reflects the increase in the prices of regulated energy (+5.8%) and unregulated (+4.6%), unworked food (+2.2%), recreational, cultural services and for the care of the person (+0.5%) and durable goods (+0.4%). The prices for transport services (-2.5%) and processed foodstuffs (-0.6%) are decreasing on a monthly basis. Inflation acquired for 2026 is +3.1% for the general index and +1.9% for the underlying component.

The harmonised index of consumer prices (IPCA) recorded a change of +2.1% on a monthly basis, due to the end of the summer balances of which the NIC does not take account, and to +4.2% on an annual basis (from +3.2% of the previous month); the preliminary estimate was +4.1%. The national consumer price index for households of workers and employees (FOI), net of tobaccos, records a change of +0.6% and a curtain of +4.0%. In the third quarter of 2026 consumer prices, measured by the IPCA, show a more marked increase for families with low spending levels (+4.4%), compared to those with the highest levels (+2.9%).
