ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In September consumption in catering shows a substantial holding in the frequency of visits (+0.3% compared to the same month of 2025) and an increase of 1.7% of current prices. In the face of an inflation of catering services equal to +2.9%, the nominal growth rate of consumption is not sufficient to neutralize the effects of price increase, resulting in a contraction of expenditure in real terms. The Observatory highlights the prices and consumption of the Centro Studi Fipe-Confcom.
Even the average receipt, up by 1% on an annual basis, grows at a lower rate than the price of the sector. The analysis for consumption shows a relatively positive trend for the main meals and the evening aperitif: the lunch grows of +3.3% in visits and of +3.5% in value, the dinner respectively of +2.0% and +1.4%, while the evening aperitif registers +3.4% of visits and +7.9% in value.
On the other hand, the afternoon consumption (-5.2% visits and -1.3% value) and the after-dinner/night (-2.3% visits and -10.4% value). As for consumption channels, restaurants (+3.6% visits, +4.3% value) and bars (+2.5% visits, +2.0% value) show a positive trend. In increase also the canteens (+5.4% visits, +6.2% value) and the ice cream shops (+14.4% visits, +11.9% value), while confirming in contraction the food delivery (-7.0% visits and -14.6% value) and the takeaway premises (-6.1% visits and -1.9% value). On the price front, in September the inflation of catering services slows down to +2.9% tendential (from +3.2% in August), confirming itself largely below general inflation (+4.2%), driven by energy.
In the bars the price increase is +3.2% (+4.4% for pastry and ice cream and +2.8% for the cafe), in the traditional restaurants of +2.6% and in the pizzerias of +3.0%. The canteens record a +2.1%.
