Immigration, Meloni “To work on innovative solutions to defend European borders”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We continue to follow the evolution of the crisis in the Middle East, reaffirming every effort to restore stability, guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz”. This was said by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, at the end of the meeting, at Palazzo Chigi, with the Prime Minister of Ireland, Micheal Martin. “We share some firm points on Gaza and the West Bank, while remaining the right to security of Israel, the importance of providing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population, the solution of two states for a just and lasting peace possible – added Meloni –, the condemnation of the violence of settlers and Israeli settlement activities.”.

“On the migration dossier we share the attention to the external dimension, therefore cooperation, even with the nations of origin, of transit that the European Union is carrying out. At the moment we are working with Cyprus, Greece and Malta, especially in order to avoid the risk that a crisis like the one we had after 2015 also, therefore with new innovative solutions to defend European borders”, he added.

“We talked about the definition of the multiannual financial framework 2028-2034, it is a complex negotiation, we all know, within which Italy works to affirm some basic principles, it seems to me that on several of these we also agree with Ireland. I think that the common agricultural policy and cohesion are not, clearly, in contrast to the concept of competitiveness, rather two preconditions for ensuring the right competitiveness of our productive systems,” he explained.

“In such a complex phase, in which it is difficult to find resources, I believe that in Brussels we must also reflect, with responsibility, on the operating expenses of the administrative machine, I said in council, in the last meeting, that it does not seem to me that the signal to spend 800 million euros in the right direction to restructure the seat of the Council of the European Union” is one of the passages of his speech.

“For Italy the energy question is a priority, the Iranian crisis is producing heavy effects, for families and businesses, are quite similar problems for everyone, after I meet the associations of the motorists, are exceptional circumstances, outside the control of the individual Member States, which in our opinion need answers,” so Meloni on the topic of energy. “We believe that these circumstances, legitimize the extension of flexibility, already granted in security and defence – Meloni added. Even the investments needed to cope with the energy crisis, because also energy is security, also the economy is security for our systems”. The premier recalled: “This proposal is the subject of a letter that I wrote to the President of the European Commission, it is not a question of making more debt but to better allocate what is already foreseen.”.
