ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The fifth edition of the conference “Trade, value chains and financial linkages in the global economy”, organized by the Bank of Italy and the European Central Bank on 29 and 30 October 2026. The meeting brought together scholars from the academic world and policy institutions, with an opening intervention by Andrea Brandolini (Capo Dipartimento di Economia e Statistica della Banca d’Italia) and keynote lectures by Felix Tintelnot (Duke University) and Paola Conconi (University of Oxford).
The effects of commercial and industrial policies on economic, innovation and prices have been discussed. Research has deepened the role of multinationals in responding to duties, costs of non-tariff barriers and rules of origin, as well as the consequences of restrictions on access to semiconductors and critical raw materials. The importance of evaluating consumer effects has also emerged, especially on poorer households.
The discussion also concerned geopolitical fragmentation, interconnections between credit and foreign trade and the elusion of sanctions through intermediary countries. Analysis of the interruptions of maritime routes has highlighted the role of diversification of supply and alternative modes of transport in the ability of enterprises to adapt to shocks.
Presentations will be available soon on the Bank of Italy website. The next edition of the conference is scheduled for autumn 2027.
