ROMA (ITALPRESS) – UniCredit has received the authorization of the European Central Bank to exceed the threshold of 30% stake in Commerzbank and to further increase its share, without maximum limits.
The decision – read in a note – is a fundamental stage in the acquisition of Commerzbank by UniCredit, confirming the positive assessment of the transaction by the ECB and the trust placed in the fundamental solids of UniCredit and its position of force within the European banking sector.
The completion of the remaining regulatory steps and the satisfaction of the conditions necessary to complete the offer on Commerzbank are planned towards the end of the year; at that point UniCredit will hold about 50% of the voting rights in Commerzbank and will be able to take over the bank.
