ROMA ITALPRESS) – “The geopolitical tensions, conflicts and economic fragmentation are becoming increasingly decisive in the global economy. In 2026, the new interruptions of energy supplies and fertilizers, as well as logistic networks, fueled inflation, weakened confidence and limited consumption. The effects fall disproportionately on emerging and developing economies (EMDEs), whose limited budget and financial reserves, together with less diversification of energy sources, reduce their capacity to absorb shocks. As a result, in several countries, progress on the development front has undergone a setback, risking results achieved with great effort.” This is said by the Governor of the Bank of Italy Fabio Panetta at the 114th meeting of the Development Committee of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Bangkok.
“In this context – he adds – our Electoral College firmly supports the World Bank Group (WBG) in its efforts to develop innovative solutions and tools to eradicate poverty and promote development through inclusive growth, job creation, investment in human capital and infrastructure, better access to finance and solid social protection systems. Climate action, good governance, transparency and gender equality should be integrated into all strategies and implementation. Multilateralism and international cooperation remain essential for lasting progress.”.
