ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In August 2026 Istat estimates that the seasonal index of industrial production decreased by 1.3% compared to July. In June-August, a decrease in the production level of 1.1% compared to the previous three months was recorded.

The seasonal index shows in August a conjunctural increase only for energy (+2.8%); vice versa, decreases for instrumental goods (-0.9%), consumer goods (-1.2%) and intermediate goods (-1.8%).

Net of the calendar effects, in August 2026 production remained unchanged compared to the previous year (the calendar working days were 21 against 20 August 2025). The energy growth is marked (+11.5%) and the capital goods increase in a modest way (+0.7%); negative changes record, instead, intermediate goods (-4.0%) and consumer goods (-4.4%).

The sectors of economic activity that record the major increases of the curtain are the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air (+14.5%), the other manufacturing industries, repair and installation of machines and equipment (+2.0%) and the manufacture of means of transport (+1%).

“In August, seasonally adjusted industrial production decreases. The overall trend in the average period of June-August compared to the previous quarter is negative – Istat comments. One of the main groupings of industries is a monthly positive dynamic only for energy while the remaining sectors are down. In tendential terms production, net of the calendar effects, remains unchanged. Among the main sectors of activity is the annual growth of energy”.
