In August retail sales grew: +0.3% in value and +0.1% in volume

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In August 2026, compared to the previous month, retail sales are increasing both in value (+0.3%) and in volume (+0.1%). Food sales are growing (+0.8% in value and +0.5% in volume) while non-food goods are stationary in value and fall slightly in volume (-0.1%). It makes Istat known.

In the quarter of June-August 2026, in conjunctural terms, retail sales see a decline in value (-0.3%) and in volume (-0.5%). The decrease concerns both sales of food (-0.4% in value and -0.5% in volume) and those of non-food goods (-0.1% in value and -0.4% in volume). On a tensile basis, in August 2026, retail sales recorded an increase of 0.5% in value and a decrease of 1.0% in volume.

Food sales increase in value (+0.9%) and decrease in volume (-0.4%) as well as non-food goods (respectively +0.2% and -1.3%). With regard to non-food goods, heterogeneous tendencies are recorded between product groups.

The biggest increase concerns IT, telecommunication, telephony equipment (+6.7%), while Footwear, leather and travel articles record the biggest decline (-4.1%). Compared to August 2025, retail sales are increasing for large distribution (+1.1% in value and +0.1% in volume) and online trade (respectively +5.4% and +3.6%).
