From the EIB and Intesa Sanpaolo 300 million euros for social housing and university residences in Italy

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The European Investment Bank and Intesa Sanpaolo, through the IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division, signed a 300 million agreement aimed at supporting the construction of new students and accommodation at a calmed price in Italy.

The initiative will finance investment programmes promoted by public and private operators for the construction of housing with sustainable canons and structures dedicated to students, contributing to a growing demand for housing in particular in areas characterized by increased demographic and university pressure.

Gelsomina Vigliotti, EIB Vice-President, said: “With this operation, the EIB strengthens its commitment to support social, affordable and student housing in Italy, helping to increase the offer of affordable accommodation for the most vulnerable groups and students, in response to a growing demand that now affects the whole of Europe. Ensuring access to the house means strengthening the social fabric and supporting the future of the country.”.

Over the last five years, the EIB Group has allocated over 18 billion to social and affordable housing in Europe, contributing to the construction of more than 84,000 new housing and the redevelopment of 580.000 housing.

For Intesa Sanpaolo, the agreement bears witness to the Group’s commitment to supporting initiatives capable of generating economic and social value for the country. Mauro Micillo, Chief of the IMI CIB Division of Intesa Sanpaolo, commented: “Access to the home and sustainable housing services is a key element in reducing the situations of fragility that can affect families, young people and students, promoting inclusion, mobility and development of the territories. The agreement with the EIB allows us to expand support for projects that combine economic sustainability and social value, contributing to the concrete needs of people and communities.”.

The financing of the EIB will cover up to 50% of the total cost of individual eligible projects, while the remaining share will be secured through further sources of financing and own resources of the promoters. Thanks to the agreement total investment can be activated for approximately 600 million.
