ROMA (ITALPRESS) – On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the production plant in Portogruaro, Purina, a leading company in Europe in pet care, announces a new phase of development of the site with two important investments that confirm its strategic role within the European production network. The first aims to strengthen and modernize the plant to meet a growing and constantly evolving demand in the super premium segment; the second is dedicated to the wastewater treatment plant. These investments are part of the widest industrial development strategy launched by the company in Italy, which also includes the recent announcement of the new Purina production hub in Mantua, confirming the company’s willingness to invest in the dynamic European petcare market.
Founded in 1986, the Portogruaro plant is today one of the most advanced sites in the European Purina network and represents a center of excellence for the production of food for dogs and cats. The site has strengthened its strategic role thanks to distinctive skills in the production of dry foods, quality controls, operational excellence, innovation, environmental sustainability and the industrialization of new products. Today Portogruaro is not only a production site, but a hub of expertise that enables innovation and high quality standards, contributing to the evolution of the Purina portfolio and supporting business growth in European markets. And although this investment further strengthens our production capacities and our innovation path, its ultimate goal is to offer increasingly advanced nutritional solutions for pets.
The Portogruaro plant produces some of the most representative premium brands in Purina. To accompany this development, Purina invests over 50 million in a specific transformation path that will accompany the development of the plant until 2029. In line with the growing demand for super premium products and specialized nutrition, the project provides progressive interventions on the entire factory, maintaining the production continuity of the site and confirming the strategic role within the European production network. This is where product innovation and industrial capacity meet, consolidating the contribution of Portogruaro to the development of the European business. Alongside production development, Purina continues to invest in the evolution of its industrial processes through the construction of the new Waste Water Treatment Plant, an internal wastewater treatment plant that will allow the plant to directly manage an activity today entrusted to external plants. Designed to accompany the future growth of the site, this plant will help to optimize waste water management, reducing transport to external plants and related environmental impacts, with benefits also in terms of operational efficiency. An intervention that confirms Purina’s commitment to making production processes increasingly sustainable and innovative.
The investments announced in Portogruaro are part of the broadest industrial development strategy launched by Purina in Italy, which also includes the recent announcement of the new manufacturing hub of Mantua. The new plant, dedicated to the production of wet foods and integrated with a logistic pole (in support of the Nestlé Group), will operate in synergy with the site of Portogruaro, increasingly specialized in the production of dry. Two complementary production poles that strengthen the industrial presence of Purina in the country and consolidate the role of Italy within the European production network. Fabio Degli Esposti, CEO of Purina Italia and Regional Director South Europe, states: “With Portogruaro and Mantua, Purina confirms a clear choice: continue investing to support the growth of petcare in Europe. The new investments announced today strengthen a site that for forty years has contributed to the quality and innovation of the Purina portfolio, consolidating the specialization of Portogruaro in the super premium segment and the strategic role of Portogruaro and the new factory that will rise in Mantova European production network”.
Filippo Cesari, Director of the Purina factory in Portogruaro, adds: “For our factory, this anniversary is a significant milestone and a starting point for a new development phase. In these forty years Portogruaro has built distinctive skills in the production of dry foods, quality, innovation and operational excellence. The changes initiated will improve the flexibility, efficiency and sustainability of production processes. It is a journey made possible by the daily contribution of people working on the site, a real heritage of skills and passion”. “The investment announced by Purina – comments the mayor of Portogruaro Luigi Toffolo – is the testimony of the growth that took place over the years by this important European company. The goal of the 40 years is certainly an important result, which fits into a productive context, that of our industrial zone, which is once again solid and attractive. Seeing national realities that believe in our territory is certainly a great signal, not only for the strategic axis of Portogruaro but also for the employment relapses that follow it. I wait, the latter, for us extremely important.”.
The celebrations of the fortieth anniversary are an opportunity to retrace the history of the establishment and its path of evolution together with the institutions, employees, their families, and the stakeholders of the territory, looking to the projects that will accompany its development in the coming years.
