50 years of Fiat in Brazil, Elkann “To Betim the largest investment cycle, here to stay”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “When we arrived, Betim had about forty thousand inhabitants. Today counts ten times a lot. And this plant has been part of this transformation at every stage of the route. But there is an even deeper truth, that numbers alone cannot tell. Brazil has taught Fiat new ways of thinking. Betim today hosts one of our most advanced industrial sites in the world: latest generation manufacturing, research and development centers, laboratories and technologies that connect people, machines and data. Those who visit Betim today struggle to believe that he is fifty years old. I hope I can say the same to myself. Our commitment is measured by facts.” Thus the president of Stellantis, John Elkann, at the event for the 50 years of Fiat in Brazil celebrated today in the establishment of Betim.

“After investing 7 billion reais to modernize this plant in the last decade, and another 8,5 billion to increase its production capacity and develop new engines and new products, today we are in the full of the largest investment cycle in the history of Betim: 14 billion reais by 2030, the largest share of the 32 billion reais that Stellantis will invest in South America. As you can see, we are here to stay,” he added.

“The birth of this establishment was made possible by the vision and enthusiasm of my grandfather, Gianni Agnelli, who knew how to see in Minas Gerais – and more generally in Brazil – what many others still could not see. Today 19,000 women and men work here, over half of Stellantis’ entire workforce in South America. And this family keeps growing. We have just created over 1,200 new jobs for the production of a new Fiat model. Over 400 suppliers operate around this plant, creating one of the strongest industrial poles in the entire continent. When Betim grows, a whole region grows. Brazil has taught Fiat new ways of thinking,” concluded Elkann.

FILOSA “BRASILE HA RUOLO FONDAMENTALE, CONTINUEREMO A INVESTIRE”

“There is something really special about the relationship between Fiat and Brazil. Fifty years ago, Fiat believed in the potential of this country thanks to the vision of the great lawyer Gianni Agnelli. At a time when the Brazilian automobile industry, still beginning, was concentrated in the state of San Paolo, Fiat had the courage to break the patterns and choose the Minas Gerais. Over the past five decades, Fiat has contributed to transform the Brazilian automotive industry. And Brazil has returned that confidence in an extraordinary way. Today this is the world’s largest Fiat market.” So the ad of Stellantis, Antonio Filosa

“This is where the brand continues to reinvent and inspire solutions for our entire company. Here the Fiat has launched new technologies and new trends, developing a network of suppliers and dealers. He has created employment and formed entire generations of professionals. In this vision, South America has a fundamental role, with Brazil driving. We will continue to invest, innovate and demonstrate the strength of Fiat and all of Stellantis. Because when I think about Stellantis’ future, I see an important part of it building right here. As it has happened in the last fifty years… and will continue to happen in the next fifty,” Filosa concluded.
