In the face of all this, security cannot only be the responsibility of the armed forces. The security and freedom of a country also depend on its ability to remain united, to resist, to react together. It concerns institutions, armed forces, enterprises, the world of research, and first of all citizens.” So the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, in his speech on the occasion of the 83rd anniversary of the defense of Rome at Porta San Paolo.
“Technologies change, change weapons, change ways of fighting, but what does not change is what must make a community strong. They are trust, solidarity, sense of belonging, the ability to help in difficult times. This is what we must learn in our history and pass on to our children. Peace, freedom and democracy are not guaranteed forever. Freedom is guarded, defended,” added the minister.
“When freedom, security and the future of our country are at stake, we must remember that what unites us is more important than what divides us. This is the spirit we must find in ceremonies of this type, because a divided country is fragile, a cohesive country is much stronger. It is a country capable of joining to defend its freedom. It’s a more human country. This is the legacy that gives us our fallen. This is the responsibility we have towards the generations that will come. The freedom we have received is not an inheritance to be contemplated is a responsibility to guard, to defend all together, thanks,” he concluded.
