Bankitalia report improves the financial literacy of micro enterprises

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Improves the level of financial literacy of micro enterprises. This is what emerges from the Bankitalia survey in 2025. Financial literacy is higher among micro enterprises with higher turnover and among those exporting; there are no gender differences between entrepreneurs. Compared to the survey carried out in 2021, the average levels of financial literacy, calculated on the 17 comparable questions between the two editions of the survey, show an improvement of 2%, attributable to components related to behaviour and attitudes. 15% of respondents are in the lowest range in understanding basic financial concepts (0-3 correct answers on 8) and 40 in the average (4-6 correct answers); 45% reaches the highest range (at least 7 correct answers).

Better skills results are associated with higher scores even in financial behaviour and attitudes. The use of business payment tools, a feature that favours a clearer separation between personal and business finance, is widespread among microentrepreneurs: 86% uses debit cards, 62 credit cards and 33 prepaid cards; also, about a fifth integrates payment cards with electronic wallets. The survey also notes the adoption of digital technologies that can help increase productivity, reduce management costs and improve the management of small businesses data. Artificial intelligence is adopted, in an extensive or limited form, only by 5% of micro enterprises and is more widespread in information and communication services and in professional, scientific and technical activities; robotics, employed by 6%, is more present in manufacturing.

Process interconnection, used by 4%, is more frequent in information and communication services. The cloud, which is simpler to implement, is adopted in an extensive or limited form by 44% and is relatively widespread among companies in different sectors. A part of the microenters is experimenting with digital technologies or adopting it within a year: 19% in artificial intelligence, 13 for process interconnection and 12 for robotics and cloud solutions. At the same level, the propensity to adopt, experimentally or more intensively, at least one between artificial intelligence, robotics and interconnection of systems is greater among entrepreneurs and has a positive link with the level of financial knowledge of business owners, which could favour a better ability to assess the economic returns of digital investments.
