ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In July, the inflation rate perceived in the previous 12 months by European consumers fell to 3.5%, from 3.6% of June. Inflation expectations for the next 12 months have also decreased, from 3.0% to 2.9%, as well as those relating to inflation between three years, from 2.8% to 2.7%. This is what the ECB notes in its monthly consumer expectations survey, however, underlining that in five years they remained unchanged at 2.4%.
The uncertainty regarding inflation expectations for the next 12 months has remained unchanged and “continue to be higher than the prevailing level before the beginning of the Middle East War”. Low-income respondents continued to report, on average, higher inflation perceptions and expectations than those belonging to higher income quintils. The younger respondents (aged between 18 and 34) continued to report perceptions and expectations of lower inflation than older respondents (aged between 35 and 54 years and between 55 and 70 years). Consumer expectations on nominal income growth over the next 12 months fell to 1.0%, from 1.1% in June. Meanwhile, the perceived growth of nominal expenditure in the previous 12 months has remained unchanged compared to June, at 5.1%. The expected growth in nominal expenditure in the next 12 months has also remained unchanged, at 3.6%; the respondents belonging to the three lower income quintiles expect a slightly higher expenditure growth than those belonging to the two highest five.
