ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The Rimini Meeting is a significant event. Once in its 47th edition, it represents a story and, in times of extraordinary transformations, it aims to continue to contribute to the building of history, in keeping with the threads of its own. This year the knot was narrowed on love. The final verse of Dante’s Comedy – “The love that moves the sun and the other stars” – does not express only a feeling of individual experience”. Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message to the President of the Meeting Foundation for Friendship among Peoples, Bernhard Scholz.
“The love that opens to others – Mattarella continues – beyond ourselves and our present – is an inner force that takes on a relational dimension and, therefore, social and precious. Tie the ego to you, to us, breaks the solitudes and imprints directions to human paths. It is the opposite of the false realism that leads to inertia, distrust, resignation, when instead the destiny of communities is to become protagonists of their future. Pope Leo XIV recalled it in his “Magnifica humanitas”. A humanity that is not closed within illusionary walls and condemned to selfishness, but open and sensitive to the injustices and dramas of those who suffer, ready to build new bridges.”.
“Solidarity, social friendship, gratuitousness of love can open unpublished horizons to politics, economy, civil life. We live a time when wars are fought, inequalities are growing as very small oligarchies accumulate powers greater than those of many sovereign states. It is from the humanity of women and men who can draw their energies to refuse homologation, passiveness, hatred, aversion to the different, to the stranger, to educate for peace,” he adds. “I wish the Meeting, to all those who will participate in the days of Rimini, to continue to build with generosity horizons of humanity,” he concludes.
