ROMA (ITALPRESS) – For enterprises and families the account of gasoline, oil, electricity and gas could exceed 200 billion euros in 2026. It is the scenario developed by the CNA projecting over the whole year the trend of consumption and expenditure for fuels, light and gas in the scenario where the average final prices are higher than 20% compared to 2025. Under these conditions, expenditure would reach approximately 206 billion, over 33 billion more than the 172.5 billion estimated last year.
A level higher than 2022 when energy spending for households and businesses reached 202 billion. For Italian families on average an increase of more than 500 euros on an annual basis, while for the entire audience of the enterprises an increase of more than 4,500 euros. In the scenario with an increase of 10% of the average final prices of electricity and gas and the confirmation of the prices of fuels to the current levels, the overall account would reach approximately 195 billion, with an increase of 22.6 billion compared to 2025. If the increase reached 30%, the expenditure would rise to approximately 217 billion, almost 44,5 billion more.
The fuel dynamics show how the price effect can prevail over consumption. In the first eight months of 2026 the volumes of oil for autotraction have decreased by 4.3% compared to the same period of 2025, but the expenditure has increased by 12.6%. For gasoline, an increase in volumes of 4.8% corresponds to an increase in expenditure of 9.6%. If these dynamics continued, the annual account of the two fuels would rise altogether from 66,6 to 74,4 billion euros.
If the national electricity requirement and gas consumption will confirm in the twelve months the trend from the beginning of the year (+5% in the first eight months for electricity and +1% gas) the electricity spending would reach approximately 87.8 billion and that for the gas destined to the final users 43.8 billion in the scenario of increase of the prices of 20%.
“Reducing energy prices must become a priority of economic policy – says CNA president, Dario Costantini –. For craftsmen and small businesses, heavier bills mean less resources to invest, innovate and create jobs. In the next budget law we ask to set up a fund of one billion euros a year dedicated to small photovoltaic plants for the self-production of micro and small enterprises. It is a concrete intervention to reduce costs, make enterprises less exposed to market fluctuations and accelerate energy transition.”.
