ROMA (ITALPRESS) – From June 1st to August 31st, “the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not left only any Italian who had problems while abroad, especially those who had health problems.” So Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in a video about X. “ 25 of our compatriots have been repatriated and in the next few hours will also return the young Younes, who had an accident in a pool in Egypt during his holiday and will be taken to the hospital in Turin”, remember.

“ 110 warnings have been issued to give information in case of disasters or problems of political movements from our crisis units. 130 extraordinary interventions have always been made by our crisis unit, 400 interventions of economic assistance, four thousand temporary travel documents have been issued by Italian citizens who had lost them or had some problems”, adds Tajani.

“We made 6000 calls to manage all these eventualities from crisis units, especially to give 210 thousand passports and electronic identity cards to citizens who had no more. Of course we have given assistance to the countries that have had calamity: we think of the tragedy of Nepal, the earthquake in Venezuela, to what happened in Colombia and Peru. Then there were other problems, let us look at the last attack in Switzerland, where our compatriot lost his life. Then assistance for fires, then interventions on the African continent. From Mr Di Battista to young Younes, everyone has been assisted with the same spirit, with the same readiness, with the same desire to give assistance to our compatriots,” Tajani concludes.

FARNESINA, NEL CORSO DELL’ESTATE 600 ATTIVITÀ DI ASSISTENZA CONSOLARE

During the summer of 2026 the Farnesina, through the Unity of Crisis and the diplomatic-consolar network, guaranteed assistance to the Italians abroad, intervening in thousands of cases where the compatriots found themselves in situations of emergency or difficulty. Between 1 June and 31 August, the diplomatic-consolar network coordinated 25 health repatriations, carried out 600 consular assistance activities, including 400 emergency economic assistance. During the summer, about 370 compatriots were arrested, stopped or held, assisted by our offices. In total, about 210.000 passports and electronic identity cards were issued and about 4,000 temporary travel documents to those who needed it in emergency.

In the same period, the Crisis Unit’s Operating Room received over 6,000 phone calls and coordinated assistance to the compatriots in more than 130 events linked to natural disasters, episodes of political instability, maritime and air accidents and acts of terrorism. On the indication of foreign minister Antonio Tajani, the task force was activated to assist the compatriots on the occasion of the earthquake in Venezuela, the flood in Nepal and, lastly, the shooting at Aarau, Switzerland.
