From New York to Rome, on the exact day when, eighty years ago, Italy chose its hymn.
This is the particular meaning of the return to the Capital of Stefano Miceli, pianist and Italian conductor of international prestige, protagonist of the celebratory concert dedicated to the 80 years of the “Canto degli Italiani” as the National Anthem of the Italian Republic.
The appointment, by invitation, will be held on 12 October at 7 pm in the historic Vanvitellian Hall of the Angelic Library of Rome, one of the most prestigious testimonies of the Italian cultural and librarian tradition, among the oldest in Europe.
On 12 October 1946 the Council of Ministers, chaired by Alcide De Gasperi, established the provisional adoption of the Mameli Anthem as the National Anthem of the Italian Republic.
Eighty years later, right on the same date, the music returns to celebrate that page of the history of the Republic, through the presence of Stefano Miceli, interpreter and protagonist of the Italian music culture among the most appreciated in the world.
Italian and New York adopting, master Miceli has built in over thirty years a prestigious international career, performing and managing in important theatres and concert halls of the world: Carnegie Hall, Berliner Philharmonie, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Sydney Opera House, La Fenice Theatre in Venice and Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, as well as several prestigious European, American, Asian and Australian stages.
The artistic career Miceli has accompanied a constant commitment to the promotion of Italian culture and cultural diplomacy, making music a tool for dialogue between countries, institutions and communities. In 2023 his path was recognized by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
In the evocative setting of the Vanvitellian Room, the master will be protagonist of a piano recital conceived for the occasion, in which the choice of compositions will accompany the public through the Italian piano tradition and the wider European musical context. The piano will thus become the conductor of a musical tale capable of combining Italian identity and European dimension, entrusted to the sensitivity of a refined interpreter.
In the evening will also participate the tenor Aldo Caputo, protagonist of a part of the program, to enrich with the voice the musical path of the celebration.
The return of Master Miceli to Rome from New York, on the 80th anniversary of the decision of the De Gasperi Government, was strongly desired to take on an important symbolic value: Italian music returns to the center of national memory through an interpreter who for over thirty years bears the name and culture of Italy on the great international stages. Thus Rome and New York, past and present, art and cultural diplomacy, meet in the Vanvitellian Room to renew the “Canto degli Italiani”.
