ROMA (ITALPRESS) – SNAG-Confcommercio met on 21 April the undersecretary of publishing, Alberto Barachini, to discuss the confirmation of bonuses in favor of newspaper sales and the development of news services. “It was a positive and positive meeting. We represented the Undersecretary the need to confirm the system of bonuses to the newsstands, advancing new technical proposals to strengthen the measure and improve the mode of delivery – commented the president of SNAG-Confcommercio, Renato Russo -. The objective is to support the resendments more effectively, especially those located in the kiosks, favouring greater access to the available funds.”.
According to the data processed by SNAG, thanks to the interventions of the Government the rate of closures of the newsstands (net of the new openings) in 2025 was further reduced to 3.6%. During the meeting, the theme of the development of news services was also discussed: “It is essential – Russian continued – to bring new services to newsstands, in compliance with privacy regulations, to facilitate the provision of digital certificates and services to citizens.” The President added: “From the undersecretary we have received attention and full readiness to analyze and develop the proposals advanced by SNAG, as well as to deepen the issues related to the implementation of digital services in newsstands and the continuation of this path.”.
SNAG underlines “the importance of ensuring support for the news network also for 2026”, highlighting at the same time “the need to develop new opportunities for profitability for the sector”. “From the Government, some Regions and many Municipalities – Russian concludes – we are receiving concrete and effective signals of support to the category; it is difficult to understand the immobilisation of publishers. We ask the publishers to do their part, with concrete actions and targeted investments on the news network, even in the light of the fact that our remuneration has been based on a National Agreement that has expired for over twenty years.”.
