MATTARELLA AL PAPA “VIAGGIO APOSTOLICO SARÀ D’ISPIRAZIONE PER IL MONDO INTERO”
“Holiness, I would like to thank you very much for the message you wanted to address me at the time when you are about to go to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru. It is for the Italians and for me personally a great joy to know that she will carry out this long and long-awaited pilgrimage in Latin America. I am sure that this apostolic journey – for the messages that will go and for the determination and perseverance with which Your Holiness will promote it – will rise vast hopes and will be of inspiration not only for the friends peoples of that continent, but for the whole world”. Thus the president of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to his Holiness Pope Leo XIV.
“Fedels of different nationalities and cultures, of every generation and different economic and social conditions, await all with impatience your arrival,” he adds. “They are united by the enthusiasm and urgency of receiving comfort in the face of challenges that are perceived with particular gravity especially in contexts marked by strong inequalities, further accentuated by the repercussions of international conflicts and phenomena of global reach such as environmental changes. Italy will all follow this journey with participation, also because of the historical human, cultural and economic constraints that bind it to Latin America, a region that in the past centuries has generously welcomed hundreds of thousands of my fellow citizens, migrated to those lands seeking work and better living conditions. With these sentiments, I am pleased to renew them, Your Holiness, at the immediate eve of these important commitments, the most sincere expressions of affection on behalf of the entire Italian people,” the head of the state concludes.
