ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Fight against organized crime, contrast to terrorism and human trafficking were the themes at the heart of the meeting between the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi and his Turkish counterpart Mustafa Çiftçi, which took place today in Ankara. The close collaboration and exchange of information between the Police Forces of the two countries allowed us to achieve important results in contrast to transnational criminal networks, and through constant dialogue it was possible to carry out preventive actions to intensify investigative collaboration also in cooperation to counter terrorism. Equally central the migration chapter and the fight against traffickers, where collaboration with the Turkish authorities continues to produce significant results: arrivals of irregular migrants from Turkey during this year were practically zero.
An important contribution in terms of the management of migration flows, which is accompanied by the support that the Turkish authorities ensure to our Police Forces for transit through Istanbul of foreigners repatriated from Italy to third countries. “Italy and Turkey – said Piantedosi – are linked by a solid friendship supported by the strong harmony between our Presidents and a political dialogue strengthened by the Intergovernmental Summit of April 2025.” During the visit, the Italian officials of the International Organizations and of the European Union in Turkey, who are responsible for the topics of interest.
