More than 130 children participated in the New York edition of Serie A Elite, the official youth development program of the League Serie A in North America, created in collaboration with Rome City Institute. The event, which was held on June 20 at Chelsea Waterside Park in Manhattan, offered young people and girls from 8 to 13 years the opportunity to train with Italian technicians and learn about the methodology and culture of Italian football for free.
At a time when the FIFA World Cup is bringing unprecedented attention to football in North America, the strong participation recorded in New York showed the growing interest in this sport among young players and their families. During the day, participants trained in the field, participated in interactive activities and were able to see closely the iconic Scudetto Trophy of Serie A. All have received the official PUMA shirts, global technical partner of the League Serie A.
In addition to the field, families were involved in a wider celebration of Italian culture through activities promoted by a selection of Italian brands: an experience designed to bring the American public closer to the lifestyle and identity behind Italian football.
“Serie A Elite represents much more than a youth development program: it is a platform through which we share the values, culture and tradition of Italian football with the next generation”, said Luigi De Siervo, managing director of the League Serie A. «To see so many children participate enthusiastically in this initiative in the heart of New York confirms both the increasing popularity of our sport in the United States and the strong interest in the technical and educational approach that characterizes Serie A. Investing in young people means building authentic and lasting relationships with tomorrow’s fans”.
“The response to the A Calcio Camp Series in New York has exceeded our expectations and confirms the growing interest that Italian football continues to generate among the new generations in the United States,” said Giorgio Antongirolami, CEO of Rome City Institute. «The families have enthusiastically welcomed the opportunity to experience an authentic Italian football experience through training sessions led by Italian technicians and activities inspired by the culture of Serie A. The success of this initiative strengthens our commitment to further develop Serie A Elite, bringing the program into new communities and bringing even more young to the tradition and values of Italian football”.
The New York event marks the beginning of a new phase of expansion for Serie A Elite. In the wake of the New York edition, League A plans to bring format to other cities in the United States, building a national presence and strengthening the relationship of the league with local communities and with the next generation of fans.
