ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “The number of landings has declined dramatically: from the peak of 2023 it has descended clearly in 2024, in 2025 and the trend is further down this year. In two years we recorded over 80% less landings. These are results achieved thanks to the initiatives that the Government has put in place. A fundamental step is the agreements concluded with countries of origin and transit of migration flows, which we have defined with a patient and intense negotiating action that has covered many countries of North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.” Thus the Interior Minister, Matteo Piantedosi, during Question Time at the Chamber.
“Always thanks to our fruitful cooperation with countries of origin and transit of flows, today the containment of departures already takes place within their borders and in their territorial waters. The numbers clearly return the scope of this commitment: in recent years Libya and Tunisia have blocked more than 275 thousand departures, while from Libya, Tunisia and Algeria have been carried out, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration, more than 97,500 volunteer repatriates assisted, with direct and preventive interventions regarding departures towards our coasts,” he adds.
“It is significant that the data on repatriates, whose effectiveness has a dissuasive effect on departures: in the current year there are already more than 6,500 among forced repatriates and assisted volunteers, and we are proceeding rapidly. Compared to the same period of recent years, there had never been such a large number of repatriated people, especially taking into account the reduction of arrivals – the Minister of the Interior emphasizes –. On this front, we have recently predicted, in the recent decree-law 144, the extraordinary recruitment of 500 operators of the State Police specifically dedicated to the activities of prevention and contrast of irregular immigration and border control”.
