ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “To govern we must start from the right priority and we have done so from the beginning, concentrating the few resources we had available on families, workers and productive fabric and encouraging those who hijacked and who produced in Italy: we used those resources to cut taxes on work and enterprises with measures revealed to be effective. Another great priority we have taken is the defence of purchasing power: in the current budgetary law we would like to extend the reduction of the wedge and the detaxation of contractual increases.” Thus the president of the Council Giorgia Meloni in video connection with ‘Oltre le Radici’, the annual event of Il Gazzettino. “We are at the beginning of the work that will lead us to define the measures that will compose the budgetary law – continues Meloni –. Of course we will continue in the direction taken so far, or add year after year an extra towel to the same strategy, concentrated on wages, support to enterprises, defense of purchasing power, protection of the family, incentive to birth and health. Among the dossiers on the table one of the main concerns the greater flexibility obtained in Europe to cope with the energy crisis: there is an availability from more than 14 billion in two years that we want to use especially to lower prices structurally for enterprises”.
“There is then the theme of the extension of the unique Zes, on which the goal is to expand the simplifications and allow those who want to invest in it in a simple and immediate way: this measure can make the difference in enterprising territories like the north-east. We intend to bring the norm to one of the next Councils of Ministers, even the opposition says it agrees,” the PM points out.
“We need to build a less ideological Europe, which can adapt its priorities to a changing context, know how to approach its objectives with greater pragmatism, listen better to the needs and specificities of the territories: it must not give up some challenges that it has decided to face, but at least to deal with the fact that some measures instead of solving problems have risked creating them.” “We have a system of exchange of emission quotas that absolutely needs to be reviewed in depth: the current proposal of revision is totally insufficient and we can no longer afford it in a phase like the one we are living – continues -. We cannot continue to weigh with an extra environmental tax on our manufacturing companies, further damaging them in their ability to compete in a global market where our main competitors are not subjected to the same level of carbon cost and the same constraints: not understanding it means condemning Europe to deindustrialization, but on this I do not surrender. It is a battle that Italy has been conducting for a long time: we are trying to widen the front of countries that call for much more radical interventions on the Ets system, in defense of our industry and European competitiveness. Yesterday I was in Prague to take care of this too: with the Prime Minister we put in place a package of concrete proposals, with the aim of bringing points and ideas to the next European Council and building a broader consensus on the need to intervene quickly”.
“We can continue to talk about what we want of energy costs, but if we give the wedge on our feet it becomes much more difficult: when several months ago we put the problem in Europe in many people said that we would not go anywhere, but today register that many colleagues are working to ask for further measures; they did so France, Czech Republic and Greece.” “We were not wrong when we put the problem for time – continues Meloni –. Now the further question is the need, already put in place Ecofin, to take into account the increased inflation recorded at this time in the calculation of European parameters to be respected and the deficit allowed. Other Member States are going in the same direction: I would like to start again with the Commission so that the matter is dealt with at the Ecofin meeting next week in Luxembourg and the European Council in two weeks. We believe that in the face of global inflationary growth because of the high energy it is necessary to recognize to the Member States an additional flexibility to support families and enterprises: it is necessary to agree many people, but I am pleased that the issues that Italy has placed for the first day are shared by other colleagues. I am focused on completing the work of these five years, in which we have tried to best protect Italians in an increasingly unstable world in which threats multiply: my work depends on Italians, not on me.”.
