ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “We are aware that many could question our collaboration. We come from very different political positions and certainly do not agree on everything. But we are united by our desire to defend Europe. We do not accept uncontrolled immigration to Europe, and we have promoted a strict migration policy, both in our nations and in Europe.” Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on social media, sharing with the Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, some reflections “on the future of Europe, on the security of its citizens and on the need to defend our values and our way of life. No one can deny the negative impacts of illegal immigration on our societies: increased crime rates, increasing pressure on public services and erosion of citizens’ confidence. It is particularly serious when illegal migrants, deprived of the right to remain in our Nations, commit violent crimes, drug trafficking or make themselves responsible for sexual violence,” said Meloni and Frederiksen.
“Comprehensively, European citizens expect concrete actions from their political representatives. For too long, especially common people have paid too much price because of uncontrolled immigration. It is our duty to continue to commit ourselves with determination to offer concrete answers to citizens, especially the most exposed, and to ensure greater security and protection for our communities. Together – they continue – we have managed to change the balances in the application of the European Convention on Human Rights to foreign citizens who commit serious crimes. As a result, now they should increase expulsions. And now what can we do more? Repatriation centres must be established in third countries, as well as other innovative solutions outside Europe. We’re working hard. But this is not enough.”.
“The respect of our laws must go hand in hand with respect for European values. This applies to illegal migrants, but also to the millions of foreign citizens who live legally in our nations and throughout Europe. We are both proud of the Christian cultural heritage of Europe and want to protect it. We expect those who come to our countries and choose to make Europe their home, respect our values and do not try to impose life models that we do not share. We believe that this is the right way to protect Europe and our common values. And we believe that millions of Europeans share this belief,” concludes the two premiers.
