ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In April 2026 the national index of consumer prices for the whole community (NIC), gross of tobacco, recorded a change of +1.1% on a monthly basis and +2.7% on an annual basis (from +1.7% of March); the preliminary estimate was +2.8%. It makes Istat known. The dynamics of inflation mainly reflects the net rise in prices of non-regulated energy (from -2.0% to +9.6%), the regulated ones (from -1.6% to +5.3%) and the acceleration of prices of unworked food (from +4.7% to +5.9%); in slowdown are the prices of recreational, cultural and for the care of the person (from +3.0% to +2.6%) and In April the “bottom inflation”, net of fresh energy and food, shows a slowdown (from +1.9% to +1.6%), as well as the net of only energy goods (from +2.1% to +1.9%).
Prices of goods record a marked acceleration on an annual basis (from +0.8% to +3.1%), while those of services slow (from +2.8% to +2.4%). As a result, the differential between the service sector and that of goods becomes negative, leading to -0.7 percentage points (from +2.0 p.p. of the previous month). The rate of tendential variation of the prices of the food goods, for the care of the house and the person rises (from +2.2% to +2.3%), as well as that of the high frequency products of purchase (from +3.1% to +4.2%). The change in the general index mainly affected the increase in the prices of non-regulated energy (+5.4%), unworked food (+2.0%), transport services (+1.7%) and recreational, cultural and personal care services (+1.4%); these effects were only partially offset by the decrease in the prices of regulated energy (-0.3%).
The inflation rate acquired in April is +2.3% for the general index and +1.3% for the underlying component. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (IPCA) shows a change of +1.6% on a monthly basis, due to the end of seasonal balances of which the NIC does not take account, and to +2.8% on an annual basis (from +1.6% of the previous month); the preliminary estimate was +2.9%. The national consumer price index for households of workers and employees (FOI), net of tobaccos, records a change of value equal to +1.0% and a trend of +2.6%. In April 2026 inflation rose to +2.7%, mainly backed by the tensions that occur on the prices of Energy (from -2,1% to +9.2%) and unworked Foods (from +4.7% to +5.9%). A partial brake effect on inflation growth is due to the price dynamics of certain types of services, including recreational, cultural and personal care (from +3.0% to +2.6%). The annual growth of the prices of the “expenditure cart” rises to +2.3% (from +2.2%), while the underlying inflation drops to +1.6% (from +1.9%). The inflation acquired in April, for 2026, is +2.3%.
