TORINO (ITALPRESS) – Another story is the complementary story to narrate. That, if it does not emerge, makes the whole story poorer. Incomplete. To tell this “other” story and the contribution of women, from political participation in scientific research, from leadership to good practices born in the territories, was the main theme of the 22 Convention of iDEE – Association of Women of Credit Cooperative, which took place today in Turin, in Hall 500 of the Congress Centre Lingotto, entitled “All another story. The female contribution that makes the difference.” To open the works, we read in a note, the President of iDEE, Teresa Fiordelisi, the President of Federcasse, Augusto dell’Erba and Elia Dogliani, President of the Federation BCC Piemonte, Valle d’Aosta and Liguria, followed by the intervention of Alessandro Azzi, Honorary President of iDEE. “The women of our age live an extended invisibility, which passes through means of communication, collective consciousness and which creeps into the common imagination, with extremely concrete consequences on spaces and opportunities that women can live” Fiordelisi said. The most recent data bear witness to the deep gender gap in media narrative. On a global scale, according to the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP 2025) only 26% of people seen, heard or cited in the news are women, despite representing about half the population.
The poor female presence in the media is not only a media problem: it also reflects a lower female presence in the positions from which economic and political decisions are taken. For Italy, the EIGE (European Institute for Gender Equality), the European Union agency that measures gender equality, highlights how the “power” voice registers the lowest values compared to the other analysed dimensions (work, health, education, etc.). This indicator considers women’s presence in political institutions; in administrative councils; in economic leadership; in public decision-making places. Consob data of 2025 show how the number of women administrators delegates and presidents has been further reduced. Finally, according to the Global Gender Gap Report 2025 of the World Economic Forum, Italy occupies 85th place on 148 countries. The most critical dimension remains that of employment and economic opportunities, where Italy ranks 117° worldwide. Our country continues to be among the EU countries with the lowest female employment rate, with an employment gap between men and women of 17.4%, against an average EU of 9.1%.
“Today we are talking about another story, to give public and collective recognition to the female contribution,” Fiordelisi continued. “We need to tell experiences and lives that can become model and inspiration for young women who will come, and elements of reflection for young men with them. We believe in the importance and urgency of telling a more complete story, made of names, faces, lives and latent contributions; central, yet so little known. This narrative does not serve us women to claim space: it serves society to remember that the only way to build a sustainable future is to value every resource available.” “It is up to us to create a consciousness that becomes a practice,” he said of Erba, underlining the importance of economic independence for women: “We have always been convinced that independence is a vehicle of freedom. And that the economic factor is fundamental to self-determination: to choose, you need to know. Equity and equal opportunities are a combination that is also used to guarantee all people knowledge as a means of capacity. From financial education as a concept, you have to go to financial education as a practice and Credito Cooperativo is committed, through numerous initiatives, to foster this process.”.
“It is a commitment that also concerns our identity and which finds precise reference in Article 2 of our Statute. Financial education is not only knowledge: it is an instrument of autonomy, awareness and participation,” he concluded. “In Cooperative Credit we are used to talking about proximity,” said Azzi. “But proximity is not only a geographical measure. The proximity, for a cooperative bank, means listening. It means creating conditions so that different people can bring their own point of view, experience, skills into the organization. And it means recognizing that a community is really known by a bank when that bank can represent its plurality. From this point of view, the female presence is not for the Cooperative Credit an accessory element. It is a component of our ability to really be local banks.”.
Speaking of participation and role of women in public life at the age of 80, Elena Bonetti, Member of Parliament and President of the Committee of Inquiry of the Chamber of Deputies on the economic and social effects of the demographic transition in place: “From the beginning, it emerged that being part of public life for women was an indispensable and indispensable element in the path of reconstruction of the Republic.
