In Staten Island begins the weekend of Italian festivals

In Staten Island, Columbus Dayend will be accompanied by two festivals dedicated to Italian culture. From Friday 9 to Monday 12 October the Italian Festival at The Mount returns, while Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October Casa Belvedere will host its traditional festival with an exhibition of Italian cars. The two events will take place in different places on the island and will propose four days of meetings between cooking, music and family activities.

The first will be the Italian Festival at The Mount, organized by Catholic Charities of Staten Island in Mount Loretto, along Hylan Boulevard. The event will open Friday at 6 pm and continue until Monday, day of Columbus Day. Food stands, musical shows, rides, games and cooking competitions are provided. On Saturday, October 10th there will also be an exhibition of sports cars, from 13 to 16, and a fireworks show in the evening.

Entrance to the festival costs $5, as well as parking. The proceeds will finance Catholic Charities of Staten Island’s activities, an organization that manages assistance programs and services for the local community. Schedules are from 18 to 23 Fridays, from 12 to 23 Saturdays, from 12 to 20 Sundays and from 12 to 18 Mondays. Tickets can be purchased through the organizers’ website or directly at the entrance.

At Grymes Hill, the Italian Cultural Foundation at Casa Belvedere will organize the Italian Festival & Exotic Car Show on Saturday and Sunday. The event will take place in the park of the historic villa Roebling-Stirn, built in 1908 and overlooking the port of New York and the Verrazzano-Narrows bridge. The main attraction will be an exhibition of over one hundred classic cars, sports and luxury, with particular attention to Italian brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia.

Next to the cars there will be live shows, activities for children, art exhibitions and an area dedicated to Italian gastronomic products. Among the initiatives is the Taste of Italy Expo, housed in the interior spaces of Casa Belvedere, with tastings and products of Italian companies. The festival is one of the events through which the foundation collects funds for its cultural activities, educational programs and scholarships for students.

Casa Belvedere is located at 79 Howard Avenue. The festival will be open Saturday from 12 to 18 and Sunday from 12 to 17. The ticket costs 10 dollars, while the entrance is free for children under 12 years. In case of bad weather, the organizers predicted an alternative date on Monday, October 12. Information and tickets are available on the official website of the foundation.

The two festivals are part of the weekend of the Italian Heritage Day and Columbus Day, which will culminate on Monday, October 12 with the return of Columbus Day Parade on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, after the cancellation of the 2025 edition for bad weather. In Staten Island, where the Italian presence has a long history, the appointments of Mount Loretto and Casa Belvedere will offer other occasions to celebrate this event, with events open to those who simply want to spend the weekend between Italian cuisine, music and traditions.
