Alfasigma acquires Nordic Group B.V. and expands its presence in Europe

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The Alfasigma pharmaceutical company today announced that it has signed an agreement with SEVER Life Sciences B.V. (“SEVER”) for the sale of 100% of the shares of Nordic Group B.V and its subsidiaries (Nordic Pharma). Nordic Pharma is a private capital pharmaceutical company with operational facilities in Europe, Canada and Japan.

The operation, explains a note, will allow Alfasigma to integrate into its portfolio of rheumatology – which includes the Jyseleca franchise – the Nordic Pharma business in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, and in particular the Nordimet metotrexate franchise.

The acquisition will also allow to expand the commercial capacity of the group thanks to the direct presence in 18 European countries, extending the scope also to Canada and Japan. In addition to the rheumatological area, the agreement includes the integration of the Nordic Pharma portfolio into women’s health, critical care and ophthalmology. They enter Alfasigma 265 employees with specialist skills and expertise.

The acquisition is part of the M&A strategy of Alfasigma, focused on growth in specialist therapies and rare diseases, with a particular focus on gastroenterology and immunology. The present step follows the recent portfolio enhancement operations, including the acquisition of Jyseleca in the context of inflammatory pathologies and the licensing agreement with GSK for linerixibat, indicated for the treatment of cholestatic itching in primitive biliary cholangitis (CBP) in adult patients.

“Ours is a targeted strategy: we identify the right opportunities to increase the area of specialist care and rare diseases globally, focusing on areas where patients do not yet have adequate therapeutic options in gastroenterology and immunology – said Francesco Balestrieri, CEO of Alfasigma. The acquisition of Nordic Pharma is a decisive step in this path, because it consolidates our presence in Europe and expands the offer in rheumatology”.

“We will be able to bring true innovation and create even more value for patients and shareholders,” he added. For Charlotte Phelps, Chief Executive Officer of Nordic Group B.V, “Alfasigma is the ideal partner to accompany Nordic Pharma in its next growth phase. We are two realities united by the centrality of the patient, by solid scientific bases and a strong entrepreneurial culture. We are excited to join our forces and our experience to serve patients.”.
