ROMA (ITALPRESS) – In June the balance of the balance of tourist payments of Italy has been in surplus of 3,8 billion, slightly increase compared to the same month of 2025. Both foreign travel spending in Italy (6.8 billion) and Italian travellers abroad (3 billion) grew in comparison with June 2025, respectively 4.8 and 2.6%. This is what emerges from the data of the Bank of Italy on tourism.
Overall in the second quarter of 2026 both flows increased compared to the same period of the previous year, greater for revenue (3.9%) than for outputs (1.1%); in both cases the increase is mainly due to travel for work.
The expenditure of foreigners in Italy has benefited from the increase in the number of travellers and overnight stays, in the face of a slight decrease in pro-capite expenditure; the expansion of Italian spending abroad was instead supported by a greater pro-capite expenditure, which however was largely offset by the fewest number of travellers and overnight stays.
The growth of tourist revenue is attributable to both travellers from extra countries EU and EU (respectively, 4.6 and 3.3%).
Tourist exits increased to EU destinations (2.8%), while they decreased to extra- EU (-0.7%).
