ROMA (ITALPRESS) – Scientific excellence and service to the last characterize the collaboration between the Dicastery for the Service of Charity of the Vatican and the UniCamillus University, which signed a three-year convention for the carrying out of practical training and professional internships. The agreement, signed by the Prefect of the Dicastery, Archbishop Luis Marìn de San Martìn, and by the Rector of UniCamillus, Gianni Profita, will allow to host students enrolled in the Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery, Odontoiatria and Dental Protesis, Physiotherapy and Nursing in the clinics managed by the Dicastery. At the heart of the project there are people assisted by the Apostolic Hemisphere: people without abode, migrants and families in conditions of extreme marginality who struggle to have access to essential care. Under the guidance of the clinical tutors of the Dicastery and the academic tutors of UniCamillus, future health professionals will carry out an activity of deep human value, participating in activities towards the most fragile: from reception and first medical care, emergency dental interventions, up to rehabilitation treatments to alleviate the physical pains of those who are forced to live on the street. The understanding, underlines a note, “represents the natural encounter between the mission of two institutions deeply devoted to the service of the human being and his dignity. On the one hand, the Dicastery for the Service of Charity, a concrete expression of the charity of the Holy Father towards the poorest; on the other, UniCamillus, an international medical university that educates its students to the overall care of the person, with a strong attention to humanitarian and emergency contexts. The experience of students in the outpatients from the Apostolic Hemisphere will teach them that medicine is not only a science, but an act of deep sharing and solidarity towards those who suffer and is invisible in the eyes of the world”. The signing of this three-year framework convention “is not the beginning, but the institutional crowning of a path of progressive cooperation already initiated between the Athenaeum and the Apostolic Helimony”, we read again. The collaboration was consolidated in September 2023 with a memorandum of understanding to guarantee free dental care to the most in need at the Mother Ambulatory of Mercy and the Madonna della Fiducia Clinic. In November 2024, this initiative was accompanied by the activation of the free physical and rehabilitation service, a fundamental precondition for alleviating the musculoskeletal and neurological pathologies of those living in the street.
