Energy, alliance between enterprises and institutions to accelerate growth

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – The global demand for electricity is destined to double to 2050 according to the scenarios of the International Energy Agency (IEA). A growth driven by the electrification of consumption and the development of emerging economies, to which is added the rapid increase in consumption related to digitization, data centers and artificial intelligence. In this scenario Italy can count on a power generation chain characterized by high technological skills, manufacturing capacity and strong international vocation, already able to grasp the opportunities opened by the growth of world energy investments.
It is the message at the center of the event “From “Filiera” to “System”. Value and opportunity of the Italian energy and nuclear industry”, promoted by Ansaldo Energia with the participation of representatives of the institutions, companies, the financial system and industrial associations. The Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, opened the work.
The meeting is a new stage of the route started by Ansaldo Energia in June 2025, when the study “The Italian power generation chain” was presented, realized in collaboration with NE Nomisma Energia. The research had identified a specialized sector of almost 200 specialized national enterprises, for more than 60% SMEs, with 3.5 billion euros of turnover, over 1.1 billion added value, 18,500 employees and exports equal to 71.5% of total turnover.
The aim of the initiatives developed by Ansaldo Energia is to set up this patrimony of competences, creating an increasingly structured collaboration between large national industrial players and enterprises of the supply chain, government and institutions, regions, diplomatic network, category associations and public instruments in support of growth and internationalisation.
Determining in this path is the role of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, in agreement with the other actors of the Country System. Among these SACE, the Italian Export Credit Agency, and SIMEST, company of the CDP Group dedicated to the internationalization of Italian companies. In June 2026 Ansaldo Energia and SIMEST signed an agreement under the project “Filiere d’Impatto”, aimed at facilitating the access of companies in the supply chain to SIMEST tools to support investments and growth on foreign markets.
The national dimension adds the territorial dimension. An example is the initiative presented last September by Lombardy, Liguria and Piedmont, within the North-West Economic Area, for a first interregional call focused on the energy industry and intended to promote technological transfer projects and partnerships between enterprises of the three Regions.
“The growth of global energy demand and the global relaunch of the nuclear industry is a great opportunity for the Italian industry,” said Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia. “Our country has internationally recognized technological and manufacturing skills. We want to contribute to networking with national and regional institutions, the financial system and the diplomatic network, helping companies in the supply chain to grow and reach new markets”.
The Ansaldo Energia Group faces this growth phase of the market with a strong improvement: in 2025 revenues reached 1,232 billion euros, +10% compared to 2024, and orders 2.296 billion, compared to 1,793 billion in the previous year. The Industrial Plan 2026-2030 provides for further growth, with more than 2.5 billion euros of orders and more than 2.2 billion revenues in 2030, accompanied by approximately 500 million euros of investments in the period 2025-2030 in product technology, innovation of processes and production capacity.
A crescitwhich directly involves the national industrial supply chain and requires increasingly integrated collaboration with suppliers. The Group’s new organization aims to share demand and production needs more in advance, to improve supply chain planning, strengthen its responsiveness and accompany business growth. Putting skills, information and productive capacity to system means increasing the competitiveness of the entire supply chain and its ability to grasp the opportunities of international markets.
In 2025 the Group worked with 1.655 suppliers, 1,144 of which were Italian. 70% of the purchase value was made in Italy, 18% in the rest of Europe and 12% outside Europe. On 1,18 billion purchase value, approximately 820 million euros were allocated to Italian companies.
This strong national production base is flanked by a strong demand for export: in 2025 Ansaldo Energia achieved 883.4 million euros of revenues outside Italy, equal to 72% of the total.
A significant perspective also concerns nuclear, where the growth of the international market and the prospects for a return to nuclear production in Italy open new opportunities for the country’s industrial skills. According to the Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in the world are currently operating 417 nuclear reactors, while others 78 are under construction in 17 countries. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global investments in nuclear energy, amounting to about $65 billion a year, could reach 120 billion annually by 2030.
