Dpfp, Istat “With the rise of inflation the recovery of nominal wages has stopped”

ROMA (ITALPRESS) – “In the first eight months of 2026 the growth of contractual wages, determined by the economic improvements established in the contracts already in force and in those renewed during the year, has been slightly slowed down compared to the end of last year, with a slightly more favourable dynamic in the public employment than the private sector (+2.9% compared to +2.4% in the average period considered)”. Istat notes this during the audition to the Joint Committees of the Chamber and the Senate.

“The current rise in inflation requires special attention on the front of wage dynamics. In the second quarter of the year the phase of recovery of nominal wages compared to the growth of prices – uninterrupted from the fourth quarter of 2023 to the first 2026 – stopped. In particular, in the private sector, the trend of wages in the period April-August (last figure available for wages) is maintained, albeit to a limited extent, below inflation”, continues the Statistical Institute.
